Grapes II began as an original ambrotype, made with the 1850s wetplate process — a popular piece from a few years back. I scanned it, printed it in archival pigment ink on vellum, then gilded the reverse with Dutch gold leaf through a series of steps in my Rio Rancho, New Mexico studio. Techniques from the 1850s and from today, on one piece of vellum. There's a ton of gilding on this print.
A larger version, not gilded, hangs in the Albuquerque Convention Center as part of the Art In Public Spaces program.
