I have a total fondness for all poppies. They are delicate, paper like petals, strong hairy stems that bend and sway. This single Icelandic red poppy grew tall and magnificently. Susan has this vase from Florence, Italy and all I had to do was to pop the stem into the narrow opening.
I’m pleased to introduce my new artwork, "Icelandic Flame." This piece measures 10 by 18 inches and is printed with archival pigment on transparent vellum, with gilding on the reverse side. The finished mat size is 24” tall by 20” wide. It features a single red flower with a yellow center, delicately perched on a gently curved green stem inside a tall amber-colored vase. The minimal composition focuses on the contrast between the vibrant flower and the warm tones of the vase, set against a soft, neutral background. The process allowed me to explore the translucent qualities of the petals and the handcrafted details of the crystal vase, bringing a quiet elegance to the whole piece. Inspired by my appreciation for Icelandic poppies, this artwork celebrates simplicity and subtle beauty.
