Tintype Workshop

$350.00

Spend a day making photographs the way they were made in the 1850s — by hand, on metal, in chemistry you can watch work.

This is a relaxed, guided workshop in handmade photography. You'll shoot a provided 4×5 camera, pour your own plates, and process each one yourself — tintypes ("wet plate," if you prefer) are individually made and finished within minutes. Witness the magic of these beautiful photographs as they appear in the final bath.

And here's the part that matters: the plates leave with you. Not prints of plates — the actual, silver-toned, one-of-a-kind originals you made.

No previous experience necessary. Just bring your curiosity. Everything is supplied — camera, chemistry, plates, and enough guidance that fun is the default setting.

Perfect for engineers who want to know exactly why the chemistry works, artists chasing a look digital can't fake — and anyone who'd like to spend a day inside the 19th century.

Price is per day. All materials included.

You pick you preferred dates— my studio, Rio Rancho, New Mexico

Add a second day? Go deeper: learn ambrotypes — images on clear or black glass — or just make more plates and refine your technique. →
