Gilded Vellum Photographs
Humanities Project
The purpose of this portrait project is to counter the polarization in this country due to xenophobia. I believe that one of the strengths of our human population is it's diversity. We are all intrinsically worthy of life, love, success and health.
I am using intimate portraits that are handmade on vellum, glass, teabag, Japanese washi and other translucent papers, then gilded with faux gold. The resultant portraits are are bathed in a warm glow as they reflect a 'golden hour' light back to the viewer and the room. It is very calming and beautiful. This warm light and the intimate nature of the portraits invites the audience to examine the souls of the subjects more closely. The portrait styles I use are as diverse as the subjects.
I am making these portraits as far ranging as possible. No limits on political ideology, faith, sexual identity, ethnicity, body style, health or physical capabilities. All are welcomed to be subjects and share their unique humanity with the viewer. Not shown here are images created on glass and gold mirror, which reflect the physically present viewer back into the exhibit of portrait works.
Let's all just love each other, or at least respect one another.
